| | WJ Poker ~ Jill's Jewels of Poker Wisdom One definition of PATIENCE reads as follows: Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is the level of endurance one's character can take before negativity. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast.

Travel Tale Among the Hmong by Jules Atkins | | Among the Hmong! | We were in Sa Pa, the tourist Mecca of northern Vietnam, known for its colourful markets, and equally colourful indigenous people - the Black, White and Flower Hmong. Hmong women usually wear their tribal costume - black jackets and skirts, with heavily embroidered sleeves and aprons; bright-coloured hats and head scarves; black leggings from ankle to knee; and multiple silver collars and chains and giant hoop earrings. | Travel Tale Medieval Dubrovnik by Lucy Komisar | | Dubrovnik | We were visiting the 14th-century Franciscan Monastery when our guide Maja Milović turned to a corner that seemed out of place in the beautiful Gothic-Romanesque stone building. A small table displayed what appeared to be used ordinance. On the wall, a plaque said: "A missile shot, 6th December 1991." In 1991 and 92, more than 2,000 Serb bombs and missiles bombarded Dubrovnik. The monuments were targeted. Dubrovnik is a living museum, with an Old Town of pale limestone buildings and narrow streets surrounded by medieval fortress walls. But the history is not only of a millennium past. When you walk along the cobbled streets of the old city, you are reminded of what happened to this extraordinary place in the 1990s when war engulfed the Balkans. Parts were destroyed by Serbian bombs, and you can still see the bullet holes in old buildings. Our passionate guide, Maja, made it clear that the city will never forget. Click here to read more. |
| Travel Tale Diary from Doha ~ Gales from the Gulf! by Linda S. Christensen WJ is thrilled to share segments of "Diary from Doha" by Linda S. Christensen. Linda is a court reporter travelling the world covering major tennis & golf tournaments. This is the third installment from Linda's recent visit to Doha, Qatar. | | Linda in Doha | It is Wednesday evening here. The tournament starts every day at 3:30 PM. My latest night has been 10:30. Tonight will be later, but all in all, this is a very quiet tournament, very few press. My contacts here are Madame Sheikah, a man named Khalid, and Kathy from Belgium. Don't ask, 'cause I don't know the connection. The first day, as I was setting up my sound cables, Khalid was helping me. Khalid is Arab. He wears the full white Arab dress. I had my cables all hooked up, and then I needed to do a sound test to make sure it was being piped into all the right places. Khalid had the microphone. I said, "Say something into the microphone. Say anything. Say your alphabet."
Khalid: "Your alphabet." Click here to read more. |
